Valorant in 2026: New and Returning Player Guide

Valorant in 2026: New and Returning Player Guide

If you’re new or just returning from a long break, here’s what you need to know about Valorant in 2026. Many players thought watching their friends stream Valorant was boring and then caught themselves in a ranked match at 2 am, frustrated with their Gold rank.

Valorant launched in June 2020 and has solidified its place as one of the most played competitive FPS games in the world. By early 2026, their data shows it has 14 million monthly players with more than 3.9 million logging in daily. It had a peak of 6.76 million concurrent players in Q1 2025. Not bad for a FPS game that the internet claims is “dying.”

If you are a first time downloader or a returning player, we are here to help you understand what has changed and what you need to know the most. Here’s how the game works, where to download it, information on Valorant Mobile in 2026, your best choice of Valorant tracker, the Agent meta, and how to rank up without breaking your keyboard.

What Is Valorant?

Valorant is a 5v5 shooter where one team is the attacker and the other is the defender. The Spike (a bomb) is planted by the attacking team and needs protection until it explodes. The defending team has to stop that from happening or defuse the Spike. Each round has a 1:45 time limit and the first team to 13 rounds takes the game. Teams trade sides after 13 rounds.

Valorant has a pretty big character selection too. Agents can do things like heal a teammate or shoot teleportation beacons and that really changes the outcome of a round.

Agents fall into 4 categories.

Duelists (Jett, Reyna, Neon, Raze, and Yoru) focus on offense and getting eliminations. Initiators (Sova, Gekko, Fade, and Breach) provide flashes and other abilities that set up their teammates to challenge the enemy team. Controllers (Omen, Brimstone, Clove, and Harbor) manage area control and set down smokes to block vision. Clove has a high tier rating right now for things we won’t get into. Sentinels (Killjoy, Cypher, and Sage) focus on defense and provide intel and stoppage to the enemy team.

The Season V26 Act 3 Valorant tier list is available now, with Clove, Killjoy, and Sage as the top 3 agents. Clove has a huge advantage because her ability to smoke is still available to her even after her death. Within the context of the game, half of your team dies at some point during the game. The ability to smoke after dying is broken. In addition, Clove has the highest win rate of 53.5%.

Brimstone and Sage are the best agents to start with if you’re a beginner. Brimstone smokes are placed through a map overlay, while Sage’s abilities are more forgiving. Other agents like Omen and Jett are more punishing for beginner players.

How to Download Valorant on PC, PS5, and Xbox

Downloading Valorant on PC

If you want to start playing for free, go to playvalorant.com, and click the Play Free button. This will start the download of a 71MB Riot Client, which is only the launcher. The real Download of Valorant (around 22-25GB) will happen after you run the launcher.

Due to all the annual patches, the size of the game will continue to grow. By 2026, the majority of Valorant game files will be around 45-55GB. Be sure to have at least 60GB of free space on your disk, just to be safe.

2 Things That Confuse New Players

First, Vanguard (Riot’s anti-cheat program) installs alongside Valorant, and Vanguard requires a full system reboot before you are able to launch the game for the first time. If you skip the reboot, Valorant won’t start. Second, if you are using Windows 11, Vanguard requires Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 in the BIOS to be enabled. If Valorant installs and still will not launch, this is almost always the cause.

Valorant System Requirements 2026

Valorant is very well optimized, so the system requirements are a lot lower than other modern titles. These are the minimum requirements:

OS: Windows 10 (64-bit) or newer

Storage: 60 GB

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 / AMD Athlon 200GE

GPU: AMD Radeon R5 230 (or equivalent integrated graphics)

RAM: 4 GB

The Competitive system requirements are around the i5 8th gen / Ryzen 5 3600 and a GTX 1060. A GTX 1060 with 1080p Low settings will give you over 144fps on every map in Valorant. Valorant also does not require a higher-end GPU to achieve over 144fps, it really just requires stability in lower-end frames.

Valorant is also very optimized for lower-end machines, so the best settings for those lower-end machines are Low settings, Bloom and Distortion effects turned off, and Shadows turned off. With those settings you will have a lot better visibility on opponents and a lot more frame stability.

Valorant with Controllers: The Latest News About Console Edition

Valorant now exists on modern consoles with PS5 and Xbox Series X / S getting in on the fun thanks to the Aug 2 2024 release date. Valorant became a free to play download with the Console Edition becoming more than a direct port as a lot of thought and systems were inserted alongside Controller Input. There is now a Focus Mode that lowers the sensitivity of crosshairs to aid target selection without the commonly found ADS.

PC Valorant and Console Valorant will not support Crossplay as Matchmaking pools will be distinct.

Valorant Mobile: Everything We Know in 2026

This is a hot topic and a hot search for good reason.

Valorant Mobile exists just not in the hands of the Majority demo as of now. Valorant launched in China on Aug 19 2025 as “Fearless Covenant” and has become a record breaking title. It dethroned the competition becoming the biggest mobile game launch in China with more than 50 Million users in the first months.  The product is legit, now the only question is the timing for a global launch.

Valorant Mobile Release Date 2026: What We Actually Know

The Riot Games team has given no confirmation or indications regarding a global release for Valorant Mobile as of June 2026.

What we do know for sure:

Riot confirmed there will be a global expansion after the Chinese release.

A global beta was expected to be announced by early Q1 2026, but that’s already passed with no announcement.

A global beta or soft launch has been expected in the first half of 2026 by people who work in this field.

The first global launch regions are expected to be in North America, Europe, and parts of Southeast Asia.

The Philippines have the greatest interest in Valorant Mobile at 94%, with Turkey and South Korea following. India and most of Southeast Asia are expected to be the most likely launch regions after China.

In the meantime, expect all confident release date statements to be rumors, because Riot has not confirmed anything.

Valorant Mobile vs. PC

Riot decided that simply porting Valorant to mobile like most developers do is not their style. So instead of copying their PC version on mobile like most game developers do, this is a brand new mobile build of Valorant. Here’s how it differs from PC Valorant.

The original game design is preserved, so it keeps the same 5v5 structure with rounds, an economy, and abilities.

The game will still run with a lower-end mobile device, with only 4GB of RAM.

At the time of release, Riot is not planning to allow players on PC and Mobile to play together.

The mobile version of Valorant lets players use their abilities through touch screen mobile controls, and aren’t just placed as buttons on the screen.

If you already know how to play PC Valorant, the knowledge you have of the maps and the agents will help you on Mobile Valorant.

How to Get Early Access

As it stands, there is no public global preregistration and no announcement has come from Riot about when it will be taking place. The most effective method as of now is to keep an eye on the @PlayVALORANT page on X (formerly Twitter), the official Valorant mobile page, and the Google Play and Apple Store for updates. When Riot does open preregistration, it is expected to be a lightning fast registration.

Best Valorant Tracker Apps for 2026

Riot has not done a great job of telling you your statistics, and that will continue to be the case during this year. The career tab in Valorant mobile shows your recent matches, but will not show you your first blood percentage, which agents you win the most rounds with, your round win percentage on offense and defense, or even how your performance changes as your play time increases.

Using a tracker is one of the best ways to improve at Valorant. Here’s a rundown of the best Valorant trackers:

Tracker.gg — Best Valorant Tracker Overall

Tracker.gg has the most popular Valorant tracker, and for good reason. From their free web version, you can look up a player’s ranked history, K/D/A, headshot%, agent stats, and even the stats of the maps they have won. Their desktop version is even better, running as an overlay and displaying your competitors’ ranks and stats before a match so you can better prepare for your opponents.

Tracker.gg is free, complies with Riot’s rules, and is only available for Windows PC.

Blitz.gg — Best Tracker for Improvement

Unlike the other Valorant trackers, Blitz.gg is more focused on coaching than stat displays. Blitz provides in-game overlays, guides for agents built on pro knowledge, map-specific line-up tools, and recommends agents based on the user’s previous performance. For players wanting a tracker that does more than display stats and helps players improve, Blitz.gg is your best option.

Spike Stats — Best Mobile Valorant Tracker

If you want to look up Valorant stats on your phone, Spike Stats is the best option. Spike Stats provides you your full match history and breaks down stats for KDA, weapons, and even stats for each round. It is much more user-friendly than trying to load Tracker.gg in a mobile browser.

How to Use a Valorant Tracker to Improve Your Game

Do you want to see just how disappointing your KDA is on a Valorant Tracker? If so, start your tracker, check your stats, and close it. All those players are showing us how to use it because that is the only use for the tracker. Instead, use your Valorant tracker like this:

Instead of KDA, check your Agent Win Rate. Find the agent that grants you the highest win rate over 50 games. Play that agent for two weeks and see how ranked treats you.

Instead of looking at your career averages, consider your last 20 games. Your averages should not be dropping, along with your fundamentals.

And while you’re at it, check your map specific win rate. Figure out the two maps that you struggle with the most, and spend the next two ranked sessions learning utility.

Lastly, your first blood rate should definitely be low, as it is the most important of the stats.

Valorant Settings, Crosshair Codes, and Agent Tier Lists

Best Valorant Settings for Comp

Valorant low graphics and 1080p is all the rage in the ranked scene since the goal is FPS, and beautiful games aren’t as fun. With material on medium, shadows low or off, and whisking away the first person shadows along with bloom and distortion, you are set.

A good sensitivity to stick with the pros is an eDPI of 200 to 400 for DPI times your in-game sensitivity, meaning those of you above 800 are losing serious ranked points for every gunfight.

Best Valorant Crosshair Codes 2026

Use crosshair codes to set your crosshairs how you want in seconds. Grab these three start codes.

TenZ (Static Cross with Cyan Color): 0;s;1;P;c;5;h;0;m;1;0l;4;0o;2;0a;1;0f;0;1b;0;S;c;4;o;1

Marteen (2026 VCT 1st place with a Static White Crosshair Dot): 0;P;c;5;t;1;o;0;0l;0;0o;0;0a;0;0f;0;1b;0

Standard Comp (Static Crosshair with White Color and Crosshair Bloom Off): 0;s;1;P;c;5;h;0;0l;3;0o;1;0a;1;0f;0;1b;0

One rule overrides the others: Turn off Firing Error and Movement Error in Crosshair settings. These settings look like a cool effect, but they strengthen bad shooting habits. A static crosshair is a must for the highest tier players.

How to Rank Up in Valorant in 2026

Below Average Valorant Skill

If you want to progress in Valorant skill ranking, you need to study the Average skill level and ranking, Season V26 Act 3.

– Iron – 5%

– Bronze – 16%

– Silver – 24%

– Gold – 19%

– Platinum – 14%

– Diamond – 9%

– Ascendant – 6%

– Immortal – 3%

– Radiant – Top 500

The Median rank in Valorant is Gold, meaning most players are ranked Gold. Playing Ranked means trying to push beyond Gold, Diamond 1 and beyond Immortal. Immortal rank is beyond the top 6% of players.

The Ranked system in Valorant is based on Win/Loss (Rating Result), Round Differential, Performance Bonus, and Convergence (a multiplier that adjusts based on how far your hidden MMR is from your visible rank). Losing RR in a Ranked Win is a possible result as a player has performed far below system expectation.

5 Helpful Tactics for Leveling Up in Valorant

Most people think the way to rank up in Valorant is to play more matches. However, this is completely wrong. The people who rank up the most play more intentionally and have developed certain habits. Here are 5 of those habits:

1. Two Agents Max – One of those picks should be your main and the other your flex pick. Playing all the agents means you’ll end up stuck at that rank. There’s a clear advantage to a player who knows all the ins and outs of Omen and Sage over a player who knows the basics of all 28 agents.

2. Focus on one skill at a time – Scattered skills are always going to lead to scattered improvement. Before you queue, think of the skill you want to work on for that play session and practice accordingly.

3. Never force buy after losing 3 rounds – Valorant players below Diamond often mess up match economy. Save rounds are essential while you’re losing and don’t spend money for a full buy. Your full buy at the start of the save round is the only thing that can turn the round around, but your full buy after a losing round is just going to set you further in the loss.

4. Mute and move on – Valorant is an extremely mentally taxing game. If a player is often losing you rounds due to negativity and is impacting your game play, don’t hesitate to mute them. There are much better ways to ensure you make your call outs, like using the pings or typing them in the chat.

5. Watch one of your lost rounds – A 3 minute play of a round you had the most impact in is better than a VOD of numerous self decays. You’ll slip into a rhythm and start to recognize your mistakes easier than if you just focused on playing. Playing often delays the improvement, but if focused on your mistakes, you’ll instantly improve.
